How the Gym Affected My Life

The gym has affected my life in so many ways. I started lifting when I was a junior in high school. I started because I was 125 pounds and wanted to put on some muscle, so it was easier to defend people in basketball. I ended up really enjoying lifting, and it has become a staple in my life. Lifting allowed me to not be backed down as easily by someone bigger than me. It allowed me more to stay in place. Overall, it made me a stronger basketball player, and I am glad I started.

How to stay out of your head in basketball

I think we can all agree basketball is 80% mental. If you're in your head, you will not play up to your standards. The easiest way to gain confidence, in my experience, is to stop caring about what other people are gonna think. Go out there and play your game with full confidence. You are going to miss shots but you will make more if you play confidently. Go out and have fun and compete as much as you can. Don't dwell on the missed shots either. If you miss get in the mindset of "Next shot". If you have that mindset of "next shot" you will be confident in the next shot you take and more than likely hit your next shot.

How to Discipline Yourself in the Gym

Discipline in the gym is not easy. It is a big mindset. The easiest way to obtain it is by forcing yourself to lift on the days you do not want to go and lift. It is very easy to skip a day and then tell yourself "I skipped yesterday so another day won't hurt". That pattern will continue forever until you go down to the gym two times a week, one time a week, and, ultimately, zero days a week. You have to always be in the mindset of "I have to do this". It will not be easy, but that is what you have to do to become disciplined. Another way you could do this is to lift with someone. It is more motivating to have someone there with you. Have someone who wants it just as bad as you do. They will make you more motivated to go the number of days that you want to go and to push yourself the way you want to be pushed. These are tips that I have tried myself, and I can tell you that they are beneficial.

Basketball

I think basketball is the most reliable sport. It is definitely one of the most challenging sports. Unlike any other sport, when you dribble a ball, it always bounces back to you. When shooting, the swish of the net is the best sound on earth. Playing games is always rewarding. It helps you get better and practice and get experience. I could play basketball seven days a week for hours a day if I could. I always feel accomplished when I play. I always see room for improvement. I love putting the work in.
